WLASA’s Open Letter to Law Society of SA re Guidelines: Dress Standards in Court

Dear Members and Friends,

Law Society Guidelines: Dress Standards in Court

The Law Society has introduced new Guidelines: Dress Standards in Court, which can be accessed at the link below:

https://www.lawsocietysa.asn.au/pdf/Guidelines_Dressstandardsincourt.pdf

The Guidelines appear to seek to outline dress standards generally accepted by the various courts, and provide clarification particularly for young practitioners, but the WLASA holds concerns that the Guidelines appear outdated, overly conservative, and based on unconscious biases against women.

We have written the below letter to the Law Society in response, urging it to amend the Guidelines to reflect our modern profession.

Kind regards

Kymberley Lawrence | President
