Key Note Speaker - Isobel Redmond

Women Lawyers' Association of SA Inc. (WLA) was delighted that the Hon. Isobel Redmond, Leader of the Opposition, provided the key note address at this years Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Ms Redmond spoke on the topic of key women that have influenced her life and career and an engaging night was had by all members that attended.

 

WLA would like to thank Ms Redmond very much for taking time out of her extremely busy schedule to speak at this event.

 

Ms Redmond is currently Leader of the Opposition, Shadow Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Member for the State seat of Heysen and is the first female leader elected by the SA Liberal Party. Ms Redmond was admitted to practise in NSW and worked at several law firms in Adelaide before opening her own firm in the Hills. Ms Redmond has a keen interest in ageing and disability issues and has been a member of the South Australian State Parliament since 2002.

 

The AGM was held on Thursday 24 September 2009 at the Lyceum Club where beverages and light refreshments were provided.

WLA - Inaugural Movie Night PDF Print E-mail

Private screening a big success!

On Thursday 20 August 2009 over 40 people attended the Women Lawyers' Association of SA Inc (WLA) private screening of the romantic comedy ADAM starring Hugh Dancy and Australian Actress Rose Byrne. The movie night was held to to raise funds for the newly launched JusticeNet.

Prior to the film attendees enjoyed a complimentary pre movie drink (beer, wine or softdrink) and mingled with other members. A respresentative from Justice Net also spoke about the program and its benefits to the community. Five dollars from every ticket was donated to this worthwhile program.

 

A big thank you to everyone that attended and brought their friends, family and colleagues to this great fundraising event!

 

 

Launch of our new website

A dark and stormy night did not deter an enthusiastic crowd from joining us for drinks and canapés at our first membership event for 2009!

On Thursday 23rd April 2009 Justice Margaret Nyland the patron of the Women Lawyers’ Association South Australia Inc (WLA) officially launched our new website.

The revamp of our website is the result of detailed planning by the committee and is designed to improve the level of information provided to members.

Most notably the new website allows members to renew their membership and pay for WLA events online.

The 2009 WLA Careers in Law Seminar

How to get a job, save the world, and make a career after you graduate

In 2008 the Women Lawyers' Association of SA Inc (WLA) held its first information seminar on careers using a law degree. That event proved to be so popular and successful, that we decided it should be offered again, and on Wednesday 18 March our second annual seminar was held on campus at the University of Adelaide. Students from each of South Australia's 3 Law Schools were invited to attend and hear from a diverse and exciting panel of speakers which profiled a number of successful women in law.
