WLA is pleased to announce details of the 4th National Australian Women Lawyers' Conference.

The bi-ennial Australian Women Lawyers Conference brings together leading legal practitioners with the aim of educating, encouraging and discovering the balance between work and life.

The theme of the conference, Women Lawyers' in a Public World reaffirms AWL's commitment to the practice and advancement of women in the legal profession. All women practicising in the law should attend this conference to learn, encourage and be encouraged.

The diverse topics covered during the conference include:

• Surviving and thriving as a woman in the law: Attrition, retention and progression
• Trailblazing women and the law
• Biodiversity and the law: Examining state, federal and international legislation
• The good, the bad and the ugly truths about social media

JINGLE BELLS AND JAZZ

A big thank you to everyone that attended our annual 'Christmas Drinks with the Judiciary' on Thursday 24 November 2011. Once again the theme of 'jingle bells and jazz' proved to be extremely popular with jazz muscians from the Elder Conservatorium of Music providing music for the evening.

WLA SA would like to thank everyone that purchased raffle tickets with part proceeds going to our designated charity for 2011, the Birthing Kit Foundation. Congratulations to our raffle prize winners; Justice Margaret Nyland, Amy Challans and Taruna Heuzenroeder. We look forward to seeing you all next year!

CENTENARY DINNER

CELEBRATE 100 YEARS OF THE FEMALE LAW PRACTITIONERS ACT

A big thank you to all of our members who attended the Centenary Dinner to celebrate 100 years of the Female Law Practitioners Act 1911 on Friday 18 November 2011.

The dinner was an outstanding success with over 200 practitioners attending. A special acknowledgement goes to the Law Society for organising this event and to all the VIP's that attended. In particular, WLA SA would like to acknowledge the generosity of our Patron and the key note speaker for the evening Justice Margaret Nyland, who sponsored the attendance of one of our members and generously donated the door prizes for the evening.
